5 Tips for a Fun Baby Bath Time
5 Tips for a Fun Baby Bath Time
Bathing your baby may be both exciting and hectic at the same time. For many babies, taking a bath is a very fun routine that promotes their comfortable night’s sleep. On the other hand, bath time can also be a little nerve-wrecking for new parents, especially if your baby starts to cry while in the bath. But don’t worry! Here are our top five baby bath time tips for an enjoyable baby bath time:
1. Get everything ready ahead of your baby’s bath
Make sure you have everything you'll need before it’s time for your baby’s bath. This is especially important because you'll need two hands to safely bathe your baby! Prepare the baby bathtub, a warm towel, gentle wash, a diaper and clothing, bath toys, etc. Also make sure the bath water is comfortably warm, around body temperature. You can test this by dipping your elbow into the water. If it's too hot or cold, you can adjust accordingly.
2. Introduce bathtime to a newborn with top and tail wash
If you have a newborn baby, you can first introduce them to top and tail wash, which is washing your baby from head to toe in a warm towel. This will make washing less frightening to them at first and help them get used to it. Don’t panic if they start crying, it may take some time for them to get used to this new experience. As your baby becomes familiar with this mild washing method, you may gradually introduce a full baby bath.
3. Reassurance
Reassure your baby with calming and soothing words that you’re with them every step of the way. As your baby is still getting used to bathing as a routine, reassurance helps to provide the safety and security your baby needs for a comfortable and happy bath.
4. Give bath toys
Toys like bath squirters, bath books, bath sieves and cups can add so much fun to your baby's bath time! You can also introduce sensory experiences with sponges, facecloth, and underwater lights. Don’t forget to also clean the toys regularly.
5. Co-bathing with your baby
Co-bathing is highly recommended as it is one of the best ways to boost bonding between you and your baby through skin-to-skin contact. While you wash your baby, invite them to sing songs, play with bath toys, or blow bubbles together! You can also teach them to catch the bubbles above the tub to encourage hand-eye coordination.
